John W. Fowler
April 17, 1928 - June 20, 2010

John Fowler, 82, passed away at his home Sunday, June 20, 2010, surrounded
by his children.

A Memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 26th at
Woodway First United Methodist Church.

John was born in Whitney, Texas to Maude and Victor Fowler. He served in the U.S. Navy in WW II on the USS Pickaway. In 1948 he married his soul mate, Doris Steinkamp, and settled in Waco. He worked for General Tire for 24 years and was listed as the key man in the formation and organization of Genco Federal
Credit Union and served as the first treasurer starting in 1953. He was the spokesperson
for Watkins Furniture and worked in sales for 16 years. He later served as bailiff in
Judge Allen's 54th District Court from 1997 to 2007. He loved woodworking, fishing,
traveling and was a square dance caller and instructor for The Thunderbirds for 10 years.
He was an active member of Woodway First United Methodist Church for over 50 years
and a Master Mason for 50 years. He was devoted to his family and loved serving people;
bringing a smile to everyone he met.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

John is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris Steinkamp Fowler; two daughters, Linda Newberry and husband, Keith, of Huffman, Texas and Carole Cline and husband, Ron, of Morgans Point Resort, Texas; son, Victor Fowler and wife, Lori, of Woodway,Texas; seven grandchildren, eight great-grand children and one more on the way.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Woodway First United Methodist
Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
