Mary Ethel Dupas was born on September 12,1924 to the Union of Peter Dupas and Ellen Rabalais from Mansura, Louisiana. Mary went by her middle name Ethel. Ethel went to elementary school until the third grade. She wasn’t able to complete her education because she had to work to provide help for the family. Ethel never married, but she had one daughter Barbara Dupas (Hardy). She lived her early adult years in Deridder, Louisiana until she decided to work for the Bryans. Ethel and her daughter moved in with them so that she could help take care of their daughter.

Ethel moved around with the Bryans until she found a permanent home in New Braunfels, TX. New Braunfels is where she lived most of her adult years, serving her community and church.

Ethel loved the Lord. Serving the Lord and others was her main purpose. She loved to hum hymns, and her favorite song was Amazing Grace. She would always hum and sing that song while working. She was very passionate about that song. She attended church every Sunday. She would help clean the church and help serve communion when needed. Being of service and helping others, made her truly happy. Ethel had two jobs. The first job was working for Laurel Plaza Retirement Center where she lived. She would unlock the doors early in the morning and she would lock up the laundry facilities and offices for them at night. Also every Saturday morning she cleaned the Bryan’s son-in-law's office. She worked for both of them for many years. Ethel always claimed she would retire, but we all knew that was not who she was. Sitting around and just relaxing was not an option for her. Maybe that’s why she was on this earth for so long. When she turned 88 years old and with much convincing, we all came to an agreement that it was time for her to move on. So, that’s what she did. Her daughter moved her in, and she was with her until she was 91. No matter what, even in her last days she would attend church with her daughter and attended local events as much as possible at 91. She was a perfect trooper. She never complained, never said she felt sick.....nothing. Last year in December she was moved to Royal Manor II. Her family moved her to Royal Manor to get the extra medical help she needed, She thought it was a good idea as well. Royal Manor II did an excellent job of taking care of her. Also, Hospice did a wonderful job of taking care of her and making her feel as comfortable as they could.

Mary was loved by many, especially by her family. She was a good mother and a wonderful grandmother. She loved her family dearly. She was always caring and generous, even until her last days.

Mary Ethel Dupas is survived by her daughter, Barbara Hardy; granddaughter and her husband, Danielle and Brandon McKinnon; granddaughter, Jerrica Hardy; great granddaughter Jordan Hardy; great granddaughter, Asia Blackwell; great granddaughter, Sara McKinnon; great granddaughter, Sunny McKinnon; brother and sister-in-law, David and Vastie Shabazz; sister-in-law, Mary Emma Dupas, sister-in-law, Marjorie Dupas, and a host of nephews and nieces and great nephews and great nieces, cousins, family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Peter Dupas and mother, Ellen Rabalais; brothers, Raymond Dupas, Joseph Dupas, and Gaston Dupas; and sisters, Yvonne Dupas, Ollie Dupas and Hazel Dupas.
