Obituary for Raymond Lee Maxwell

Raymond Lee  Maxwell
Raymond Lee Maxwell, 93, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016. Services will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 25, 2016, at OakCrest Funeral Home, with Dr. Craig Klempnauer, Th.D. officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery, Gatesville, Texas. Visitation will be Friday, June 24, 5:00 to 7:30 pm at the funeral home.

R. L. was born Dec. 26, 1922, in Arnett, Texas to U. D. and Annie (Foust) Maxwell. R. L. attended public schools in Turnersville and graduated from Gatesville High School. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy April 1st, 1943, being the first enlistee from Coryell County. He married the love of his life, Minnie Olene Vannoy in March 1948, and they were married for 68 wonderfull years. R. L. was in retail sales for 47 years and enjoyed working with people. When the family moved to Waco, they became members of Grace Temple Baptist Church. R. L. became a Deacon and was later elected as chairman five times, he was also Superintendent of the Sunday School and in later years over saw the church maintenance.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, and brothers, Mack and Bruce Maxwell.

R. L. is survived by his loving family, daughters; Dedra (Turner) Maxwell, and Melissa Kay Maxwell of Waco, Texas, and son; Ronald Lee Maxwell and wife Karen, of Waxahachie, Texas; grandchildren; Darren and Kristen Turner and David Maxwell; sister; Gladys Wright and brother; Paul Maxwell.

The family acknowledges the loving care given to R. L. by Russ McCreary, Diane Cornnet, Raymond Marty Robins and Kenneth Yett, as well as other family friends.
