Mac Arthur Garrett was born on December 17, 1945 in Riesel, Texas to parents, John and Jessie (Thompson) Garrett. He resided in Arlington, Texas and formerly lived in Houston, Texas. Mac accepted Christ at an early age, and was a member of Blueridge United Methodist in Houston, Texas. He attended Anderson High School in Mart where he graduated in 1964. He was a football and basketball player.
Upon graduation, Mac joined the U.S Army. And later worked for the Railroad and retired. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Jesse Garrett and his wife Emma Garrett.

Mac Arthur Garrett departed this life on January 9, 2016. He leaves to cherish his memory: daughters; Deidra Carter of Arlington, Tx, Shennette Garrett-Scott (Vincent) of Frisco,Tx, Keisha D. Hall (Christopher) of San Antonio, Tx, and son Mac Arthur Garrett, Jr of Aurora, Co; one sister: Nelliene Baker of Houston, Tx; six brothers: William Garrett, James Garrett (Cynthia), E.J. Garrett, of Houston, Tx. Johnnie Garrett (Phyllis) of Waco, Tx. George Garrett of Mart, Tx and Sammie Garrett (Carolyn) of Phillipsburg, New Jersey; eleven (11) grandchildren; nine (9) great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
