Obituary for Roland Fryer

Roland Fryer
Roland Robert Fryer of Waco passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2015. Services will be Sunday, December 27 at 2:00 at OakCrest Funeral Home, Rev. Paul Krupicka officiating. Burial will follow at St. Martin’s Cemetery in Tours, Texas.

Roland was born October 21, 1929 in Robinson, Texas to George and Louise (Krollage) Fryer. He graduated from Waco High School. He married Christine Winkler on November 15, 1958. He worked at Kizer Claims and Commercial Credit. He played fast pitch softball in the 1950’s and 1960’s, worked in the Police reserve and was discharged honorably from the Army National Guard. He loved playing dominoes, going deer hunting, dancing, traveling with dear friends and making trips to casinos.

Roland enjoyed life. His zeal for a good time, quit wit and search for often less than tasteful jokes kept smiles in abundance wherever he might be. Hard working, stubborn and even hard headed would be common definitions of Roland from family and friends who knew and loved him.

He battled heart disease fearlessly and years past prognosis; ultimately fulfilling his lifelong commitment to making sure his wife, Christine, was cared for until her very end before he passed 24 hours later. Roland and Christine’s longtime pet cat, Prissy, held on until the very end, as well, and passed only days prior.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Christine, who joined her Lord on December 22, 2015.

He is survived by his cousin, Walter Amelunke, of Summerfield, Florida, sister-n-law, Doris Winkler, and numerous 2nd cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Special thanks to Dr. John Kosarek, Sandra Tindell, Cindy Fraiser, dear friends and ngels at Providence Hospice, Wesley Woods Health and Rehab, Community Bank and Trust, OakCrest Funeral Home and others who took care of Roland and Christine.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Martin’s Cemetery Association, % Brian Uptmore, P. O. Box 545, West, Texas 76691.
