Obituary for Bernice Deckard

Bernice Deckard, 85, passed away at her home Sunday, December 20, 2009.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Su Milam officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. The family will be receiving visitors 6 to 8 pm Tuesday, December 22 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Bernice was born on October 10, 1924 to Leroy and Emma Jacobs in Waco Texas. She was married to Lee Deckard on November 3, 1945 until his death on September 19, 1979. Bernice was very active and loved traveling, making three trips to Europe, and many other trips all over the US with her many friends. She also had a large base of friends whom she loved playing cards with and entertaining. She was active with the Sassy Singles, Newcomers and Neighbors Club, the Gardening Club, and many travel groups. Bernice was a long time employee of Cox's department in Waco and also worked at Green's La Vega Pharmacy in Bellmead, and Central Freight Lines. She was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Waco.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Lee Deckard.

Bernice is survived by her sister, Dorothy Pense of Waco; daughter, Dianne Jones and husband, Frank of Waco and son, Alan Deckard and wife, Vicki of Robinson; three grand children, David Linder of Waco, Scott Deckard and wife, Sarah of Cypress and Stephen Deckard of Waco; and 2 great- grandchildren, Jacob and Tyler Deckard of Cypress.

The Family would like to express a special thanks to Visiting Angels and caregiver, Angela "Ann" Johnson and Providence Hospice.

Pallbearers will be David Linder, Scott Deckard, Stephen Deckard, Frank Jones, Russell Gordon, and Steve Gordon.
