Virginia "Ginny" Lee Smith, 84, of Woodway, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011 at a local nursing home after battling Alzheimer's disease. A memorial service honoring her life will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd with Rev. Su Milam officiating.
Ginny was born Christmas day in 1926 in Neodasha, KS to her parents, George and Nellie Younkman. The youngest of three sisters, she always loved to go fishing at the lake with her father and was somewhat of a tomboy. Much to her sisters' disgust, Ginny would faithfully spit on the worm after putting it on the hook, as her father did. Her father's love of music soon became her own, and she began to play the flute. Ginny was a member of the youth symphony in Charleston, WV. After moving to Texas she was a member of the San Antonio Dance Band.
Ginny and her sisters all graduated from High School with honors and continued on to college. She met and married Richard L. Smith May 23, 1977. In 1978 Ginny graduated from College, again with Honors. Ginny loved ice cream and chocolate. She could never pass an ice cream shop. Richard and Ginny enjoyed going to Florida to watch the Daytona 500. Moving from San Antonio to Waco, Ginny became a court reporter for the late Judge Mormino.
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, George and Nellie Younkman; sisters, Louise Graber and Harriet Williams; and step-son, Todd Smith.
Ginny is survived by her husband, Richard Smith; sons, Jack Hall and wife, Carolyn, John Hall and wife, Lucy, and Jeff Hall; step-son, Greg Smith and wife, Amy; several grandchildren, and other family and friends.
