Virginia D. Martinez, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, at the age of 72. Born in Melvin, Texas on August 25, 1953, Virginia lived a life filled with love, laughter, creativity, and above all, devotion to her family.
A longtime resident of Dallas, Texas, Virginia had an infectious spirit and was a light to everyone who knew her. She had a passion for arts and crafts, birthday party planning, and was an avid collector of many cherished things. Whether she was shopping at Hobby Lobby, dancing to her favorite oldies, or watching The Price Is Right during the week, Virginia found joy in the little things. Recently, she became obsessed with collecting Wednesday merchandise—even though she never actually watched the show, just the famous dance scene!
Virginia worked for over ten years at McLennan Community College (MCC), where she enjoyed being a part of a vibrant and hard-working community. In her free time, she could always be found enjoying a movie, listening to a wide variety of music, or spending precious time with her loved ones. She especially adored Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley, often reminiscing about the golden era of Hollywood and music.
Her heart belonged to her family—her pride and joy. Virginia was the beautiful soul who held generations together. She was a loving mother, devoted grandmother, great grandmother, and proud great-great-grandmother. Family was everything to her, and she gave them all her unconditional love.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; beloved daughter, Sylvia Perez; sisters, Corina, Dora, and Betty Martinez; brother, Henry Martinez; and other cherished loved ones.
She is survived by her daughters: Sarah and her husband Humberto Valtierra, Melisa Perez, and Rachael and her husband Carlos Castorena. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson, with 1 great-great-granddaughter on the way.
A special thank you goes out to her grandson, Carlos Castorena, Jr., who made sure she was cared for every single day. Their bond was unbreakable—whether it was reminding her she didn’t need more from Amazon or ordering it anyway because he knew it made her happy. Their love for each other was truly priceless. Thank you, Papi.
Virginia’s life will be honored in a memorial service at OakCrest Funeral Home on Saturday, September 6th at 4:00 PM. Family, friends, and all who knew and loved her are welcome to join in celebrating her beautiful life.
Though she is no longer with us, her light, laughter, and love will live on in the hearts of all she touched.
