After high school graduation, Vic worked several places before enlisting in the Army in February 1952. He was a fast typist and worked in the cryptography department. After basic training he was stationed in Germany where he met his first wife, Anneliese in Frankfurt. They married in October 1954 and were stationed in Nancy, France until his service was up in January 1955. In February 1958 Vic began his long career with Huck Manufacturing that lasted until retirement in December 1996. He started as a draftsman and ended as the plant engineer at both the Detroit plant and then the Waco plant. He facilitated the building and setup of the Waco plant that opened in 1973.
Vic was extremely handy with tools! Most of the stories of his life were anchored by which car he had at the time and the ones he restored. Every home he lived in had some remodeling project he had done. Repairmen were seldom called as Vic could fix and build practically anything. In later years when car restoration became too much, he began woodworking and made many beautiful rockers, some child size and two nice dollhouses for granddaughters
During retirement, Vic helped with the HOSTS (Helping One Student to Succeed) program for many years. He also could be counted on to help his neighbors.
After Anneliese passed away, Vic sold his house and moved to Stilwell Retirement Home where he met and married Sharon. They had several fun experiences together including a move to Norfolk, Nebraska, and living through a midwestern winter!
