Tony A. Montoya, Sr.

Tony Alonzo Montoya, Sr., 79, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2025. Graveside services will be at 10am on Tuesday, December 2nd at Oakwood Cemetery with Deacon Antonio Arocha officiating. Family will receive visitors from 6-8pm on Monday, December 1st at OakCrest Funeral Home, with the rosary beginning at 7pm.

Tony Sr. was born January 26, 1946 in Asa, Texas to Santos G. and Maria Antonia (Alonzo) Montoya. Tony attended Waco schools and received his GED. He was into boxing in his younger years. Tony worked for the City of Waco as a grounds keeper, a job he loved very much, for 20 years and retired from the city. He loved being outside fixing things, yard work, doing woodwork, and helping family and friends when he could. He enjoyed Western movies, boxing, and football; especially his DALLAS COWBOYS!!

He married the mother of his children, Christine Torres, on September 5, 1966. Together they had Tony Jr. and Cynthia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Julia, Pauline, and Cecilia; and brothers, Santiago, Clemente, Narciso Sr., Faustino Sr., Joe Sr., Jesse, Isidore, and Santiago ‘Jimmy’.

Tony Sr. is survived by his loving children: son, Tony Montoya, Jr. and wife Norma, and his daughter, Cynthia Galvez and fiancée, Marcus Daniels, all of Waco; grandchildren, Inez Montoya Torres, Lisa Montoya, Krystal Turner and her husband Xavier, Aaron Montoya and his wife Amber, Christopher Galvez, Iliana Montoya, and Isaac Montoya; as well as 8 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sisters, Tonita Montoya, Socorro Olivarez and her husband Mario, and Patsy Tinsley and her husband Danny; brother, Irieno Montoya; along with numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are his grandsons, Aaron Montoya, Christopher Galvez, and Isaac Montoya; great grandson, Darrell Turner; goddaughter, Bethany Montoya; and brother in law, Danny Tinsley.

Honorable pallbearers are Xavier Turner, Jr. and Marcus Daniels.
