Stanley L. Kahikina

With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of Stan Kahikina, who left us suddenly at his home in Waco on November 6, 2025. A loving husband, father, brother and a cherished “Opa”, Stan lived a life defined by service, dedication, and love for his family.

He was born June 6, 1951 in the beautiful Alpine town of Garmisch in Southern Germany and carried mountains in his heart throughout his life. He discovered his love of skiing on those same Alpine slopes, a passion that stayed with him.

He graduated from Munich American High School. In 1971 he enlisted in the U.S. Army in Augsburg, Germany. For 25 years he served his country with honor as an infantry soldier, rising to the rank of Sergeant Major. After traveling the world and many assignments, he retired from active duty in 1997.

Stan embarked on a second career that revealed another dimension of his character, the gift of mentoring and teaching young people. For 15 years he poured his heart into educating the next generation with Houston ISD teaching JROTC at Reagan High School and later in the District Administration for the JROTC program. His students didn’t just learn about military bearing and discipline; they learned about character, perseverance, and believing in themselves. Stan retired from education in 2012.

In 2017, after Hurricane Harvey flooded their home, Stanley and his beloved wife of 51 years, Ursula, decided to move to Waco, where they created new memories and strengthened old bonds.

Stan is survived by his wife, Ursula; daughters, Christine Kahikina and husband Shawn and Katherine Holloway and husband Ryan; three precious grandchildren, Kira Whitley, Logan Whitley, and Caelum Holloway; sisters, Loraine and husband Ken, Victoria, and Susan; and brother, Edward.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Gertrude Kahikina and brother, James.

Katherine will forever cherish their trips to the movies together over the years. His grandchildren adored their adventures with their Opa to parks and special outings. These moments of togetherness, whether at a playground or around a dinner table with his family, filled him with joy.

A man of deep faith, Stan was a devout Catholic who found strength and peace in his beliefs. He maintained the discipline of a soldier throughout his life, staying fit and mentally sharp, always ready to help others. Stan also had a great sense of humor.

Stan leaves behind a remarkable legacy, not just of service to his country and community, but of quiet strength, humor, and unconditional love. His impact lives on in the hearts of family and friends and in the lives of his students.
