Shella (Powers) Moore

Shella Marie (Powers) Moore, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026. She was born on July 7, 1938, in Marlin, Texas, to Herschel and Arrilla (Cobb) Powers. She grew up in Marlin and graduated from Marlin High School before making Waco, Texas, her home for most of her life.

Shella was a woman who was impossible to overlook. A true social butterfly, she had an effortless wit, a playful and teasing spirit, and an outspoken personality. She loved being around people and was happiest when she was surrounded by family and friends. She made friends easily and treasured the many friendships she built throughout her life.

After retiring from Texas Child Protective Services, where she worked as a secretary, Shella stayed busy and active. She enjoyed meeting friends for lunch, playing bridge, and attending classes at the senior center. She loved being outdoors gardening and fishing, and she especially enjoyed watching and feeding the birds.

Shella was also known for her love of cooking and baking. Her cheesecakes were a family favorite, but her Christmas traditions may have been even more memorable. Every year, she made pecan pralines, date loaf, and fudge for her friends and family. These treats were more than food—they were part of the traditions and memories she created for the people she loved.

Family was Shella’s greatest source of pride and joy. Nana, as most of her family called her, loved hosting Sunday lunches and bringing everyone together. Nana was in charge—and she was not shy about making sure everyone knew it. Her bossy, loving way was simply part of who she was, and her family will remember those gatherings with affection and laughter.

Shella’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of her world. She cherished every one of them and remained deeply connected to her family throughout her life. Even as she lived with Alzheimer’s disease and the illness affected other parts of her memory, she never forgot the people she loved. Whenever family visited, she would ask about her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her love for them remained constant.

She leaves behind her children, Michael Moore and his wife Dorothy, Tammera Moore, and Eric Moore; her grandchildren, Michael Moore Jr., Chrystal Moore, Misty Manini and her husband Austin, Chris Isenhour, Angie Scheffer, Ethan Moore, and Zach Moore; and her great-grandchildren, Aria, Garrett, Kenna, Sarah, and Katie. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Powers, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herschel and Arrilla (Cobb) Powers; her son, Mark Moore; her grandson, Kevin Isenhour; her brothers, Herschel Powers, Richard Powers and his wife Clara, and Tom Powers and his wife Barbara; her sisters, Faye Hagner and her husband Bud, and Dorris Childs and her husband Darrell; and her sister-in-law, Lyn Powers.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Wesley Woods Nursing, who cared for Shella during the final years of her life, and to the Baylor Scott & White Hospice staff, who cared for her during her final weeks. Their compassion, kindness, and care will always be remembered.

A visitation will be held at OakCrest Funeral Home on Monday, October 12, 2026 from 3:00-5:00 pm.

Shella will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Marlin, Texas.
