Melvin Robert Hanson

Melvin Robert Hanson, 72, of McGregor, passed away peacefully and suddenly at home with his wife by his side on November 11, 2025. Graveside services will be at 10 am on Wednesday, November 19th at Oakwood Cemetery, 2124 South 5th St, Waco, TX. A visitation will be held Tuesday, November 18th from 6 to 8pm at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., Waco, TX.

Melvin was born on January 19, 1953 in Salina, Kansas and moved to Waco with his adopted parents. He graduated from University High School in 1971. After graduation he worked for Rosenfeld Dairy. He then worked for Coca Cola for several years before returning to work on the farm after his son took it over. He loved working on that farm and spending time with his son. He then went to work for Brookshires in McGregor but still helped his son on the farm as much as he could; it also put him close to his daughter that lived on the farm. He called his son to discuss the cows and plans for the week on the farm just hours before he passed.

Melvin loved the simple joys of life - hunting, fishing, playing dominos, and flying his Cessna 172 plane. He found peace and happiness outdoors, surrounded by open skies and the land he loved. Melvin was known for his easy-going personality, a quiet sense of humor, and loved having all his family together at one time.

In August of 1997, he married Elfaga Gutierrez. Their marriage was a true partnership built on love, laughter, and unwavering support. Melvin embraced Elfie’s three children in addition to his own two children. There was a strong mutual love between Melvin and the children - one that will continue to live on in their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Aundine Hanson. Survivors include his wife, Elfie; son, Keith Hanson and wife Pam; daughter, Penny Hanson and boyfriend Larry Bush; stepchildren, Michael Gutierrez, Lizet Gutierrez, and Jessica and husband Willie Collins, Sr.; grandchildren, Chase Sharp, Hayden Hanson, Ella Hanson, Tripp Tucker, Addison Tucker, Chloe Rhodes-Gutierrez, Willie Collins, Jr., and Garrison Gutierrez; and great granddaughter, Imani Raizel Gutierrez.

Melvin’s life was defined by his love of family, hard work, and quiet strength. He taught those around him the value of kindness, patience, and doing things the right way. His laughter, stories, and gentle spirit will be remembered forever by those lucky enough to know him.
