Our mom, Maxine Riddle, age 92 ½, passed away peacefully at her home on June 28, 2025 surrounded by family. She was born on New Years Eve December 31, 1932 in Eden, Texas to Bertis and Josie Stewart with her twin sister Bertistine. Mom always said that Grandpa Bertis and Big Moma Josie had a theme when they named their kids, they all end with “ine” except for Eugene, they used the masculine “ene”. Josie had her tubes tied at the hospital because she wasn’t going to have a child named GASOLINE, the only name left with “ine” at the end.
Mom eloped and married her friend and love, Carl. They married on July 23, 1948 when mom was 15. Dad preceded her in death on August 14, 2013, 65 years later.
My mom was the strongest woman I’ve ever met. At 5 foot 3 inches and barely 100lbs, she managed to keep all “her boys “…out of jail, happy, resilient, resourceful and generally well-adjusted.
Maxine held several jobs outside the home during her life; however, her job didn’t define her. She was most proud of her family. As a kid, looking back, I can’t remember mom having real “friends”. She was busy working and being mom. But when she moved into Walnut Creek Assisted Living as her last home, she made friends with everyone. She loved the staff and all the other “inmates”. When we visited, she would introduce all of us to all her many friends on every visit.
Maxine was preceded in death by her dad, Bertis; mom, Josie; brother, Gene; sisters, Geraldine, Earline, and Bertistine; and daughters-in-law, Cynde and Laverne.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Drew and Betty, Bryan and Rebecca, and Kyle and Natalie; grandsons, Wes and his wife Molly, Clint his wife Hanna, and Wade Riddle; as well as her granddaughters, Paige Riddle, Layne Maine, and Aubrey Riddle.
Pallbearers will be Wes Riddle, Clint Riddle, Wade Riddle, Paige Riddle, Aubrey Riddle, and Layne Maine.
Mom, we will miss you…
