Mary Irene Olivo, a beloved matriarch, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, at the age of 74.
Born on July 11, 1952, in Austin, Texas, Mary was the daughter of Nicasio and Esperanza Garcia. From an early age, she carried a quiet warmth that made others feel safe and loved. Her kindness was steady and sincere, and her life reflected deep faith, humility, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Mary expressed her love through simple, meaningful acts. She enjoyed crochet, sewing, and baking, but her greatest joy was caring for others. Her kitchen was the heart of every gathering, where she was lovingly known for “cooking for an army.” No one ever left her table hungry—there was always a pot of menudo, tamales, or a favorite dish prepared with care. For Mary, feeding loved ones was one of the purest ways to show love.
Family
Irene shared 30 devoted years of marriage with her husband, Juan G. Olivo. Together, they built a home grounded in faith, love, and hospitality—a place where everyone was welcome and no one felt alone.
Her love expanded through generations. She was a proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren and a great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy. To them, she was a source of comfort, wisdom, laughter, and unconditional love, always ready with open arms and a warm embrace.
She is survived by her husband: Juan G. Olivo; her four children: Anita Sanchez, Deborah Jo Avila and husband Ramon, Candido Rene Luna and wife Elizabeth, Orlando Roy Luna and wife Sandy, and Stepdaughter Guadalupe Olivo. Two Siblings; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Faith
Mary was a devoted member of Templo La Hermosa church, where her faith guided every part of her life. She served with humility and compassion, always ready to pray, help, or comfort those in need. Her relationship with God was reflected in the grace and kindness she extended to others.
Legacy
Mary’s legacy lives on not in possessions, but in love—shared through family traditions, treasured recipes, heartfelt prayers, and countless acts of kindness. Her influence continues in every gathering, every shared meal, and every moment of care inspired by her example.
Though her absence is deeply felt, her love remains a lasting presence. She lives on in memories, in family traditions, and in the lives she shaped with her compassion.
Mary Irene will be forever loved, deeply missed, and always remembered.
