Mary Beth Obenoskey

It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Beth Obenoskey — beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend — on May 28, 2025. She passed peacefully, surrounded by the family she cherished, leaving behind a legacy defined by grace, sharp wit, and remarkable intelligence.

Mary was born on March 24, 1941 to Yeulalo and J.L. Enloe in Big Spring, Texas. The family later moved to California, where she and her sister attended school. In 1958, she married her high school sweetheart, Buddy Obenoskey, in Merced, California — beginning a love story that spanned over 67 years and brought four treasured children into the world: Jeff, Darren, Craig, and Jana.

A woman who embraced life’s finer pleasures, Mary found joy in gardening, traveling, decorating, and especially in celebrating Christmas with her family. Her signature Diet Pepsi was never far from reach. She was a long-time member of Ridgewood Country Club, where her weekly visits with close friends were a source of lasting happiness. Mary also had a passion for discovering beauty in the past; she and Buddy owned and operated Ross Antique Mall for many years, curating a space filled with timeless treasures.

As a true Southern lady, Mary had an effortless sense of style and could make any space feel welcoming. Her presence was magnetic — a perfect blend of sass, strength, and sophistication. She made life more beautiful simply by being herself.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Buddy; her children, Darren (Laura), Craig (Kim), and Jana (Michelle LaRocque); nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and nephews, Brent Neighbors and Todd Neighbors and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her dear son, Jeff; her precious sister, Sharon Neighbors and brother-in-law Gary; and her stepfather, Howard Mauldin.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at OakCrest Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place at 10:00 a.m. the following morning at Waco Memorial Park.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Lucy Harper, Dr. Chak and the team at Texas Oncology, Bluebonnet Hospice, and Visiting Angels.

In honoring Mary Beth, we remember a woman of rare poise, quiet strength, and a heart as warm and welcoming as the home she so lovingly created for all who entered it.
