Mary Elizabeth (Bond) Butler, of Waco, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026 at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Hillcrest, surrounded by her loving children. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Wednesday, July 1st at Grace Temple Baptist Church with the Funeral service at 10am on Thursday, July 2nd also at Grace Temple Baptist Church. Friends and family will meet at Waco Memorial Park Cemetery after the service for the burial.
Mary was born June 17, 1930 in Junction City, Kansas, to Henry N. Bond and Dollie (Foulk) Bond. Her family moved to Waco when she was five years old. She grew up in the area and was part of the LaVega High School class of 1949.
While finishing her schooling, Mary married the love of her life, James Lee Butler, on December 24, 1948, in a ceremony at her parents’ home. As a dedicated homemaker, Mary poured her heart into raising her children. She was a constant presence in their lives, serving as Girl Scout Leader and actively participating in all of their school activities.
Mary loved spending quality time with her family and friends, especially when playing dominoes and bingo. She was also a talented baker who took great joy in decorating beautiful cakes for her grandchildren’s birthdays and milestone celebrations.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Lee Butler.
Mary’s legacy lives on through her four children: daughters, Joyce Hilliard and Guyla Smith of Chalk Bluff, Evelyn Odle and her husband Jerry of Chalk Bluff, and Peggy Stuckly and her husband Elton of Ross, and her son, John Butler and Debbie Evans of Chalk Bluff. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jason Butler, Jerod Corley, Eric Alejo, Chip Sheard, Chris Wills, and Ethan Alejo.
