Marvin Royce Mercer, after a long courageous battle with Parkinson's disease, gently passed away at his home on September 16, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, September 19, at First United Methodist Church, Waco, with Stephen Ramsdell officiating.

Burial will follow at Clover Hill Cemetery in Lott, Tx. Visitation will be 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard.

Marvin was born January 12, 1931 to Clarence P. Mercer and Ethel Vivian (Walters) Mercer. He was born outside Westphalia, Texas and grew up in Lott, Texas.

Marvin was Valedictorian of his graduating class of 1948 from Lott High School. He was a Boy Scout achieving Order of the Arrow. Marvin served in the U.S. Navy from March, 1951 to January, 1955. He served aboard the USS Princeton for 48 months. After discharge, he returned to Central Texas and married Rochelle Osment, the love of his life and best friend, on August 25, 1956. They were blessed with three daughters, Linda, Nancy & Vicki.

Marvin lived life to the fullest. He loved his family with all his heart. He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, any sport that involved a ball, travel, camping, playing Gin Rummy and dominoes.

He worked for Gross-Yowell Lumber Co. from 1955 to 1966 when he made a career change. He was an Insurance Agent for Great American Reserve Ins. Co. until he retired on December 31, 1993. He earned the industry designations of Life Underwriters Training Council, and Chartered Life Underwriter.

Marvin was a member of First United Methodist Church, Waco. He loved and enjoyed the Christian
fellowship. He was a greeter for the 9:30 a.m. worship service, a Stephen Minister, a member of the
Friday morning Bible Study Group and The Chapel Sunday School Class. Until his health failed, he
delivered Meals on Wheels.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Rochelle Mercer, daughters Linda Hazelrigg of Sugar Land, Texas, Nancy Facarazzo, Mansfield, Texas, and Vicki Mercer and husband Albert M. Saenz, Jr. China Spring, Texas. Grandchildren Jennifer Hazelrigg, Andrew Mercer Hazelrigg and wife Megan, Amarillo, Texas, Michelle Lacy and husband Gregory, Arlington, Texas, Ashley Facarazzo, Arlington, Texas, and Albert Mercer-Saenz, China Spring, Texas, Nathan Facarazzo and wife Jill of Phoenix, Az, Kari Tabancay and Phillip Saenz of San Jose, Ca. Great Grandchildren Cooper Scott Hazelrigg and Braxton Galvan of Amarillo, Tx, Emily Brooke Lacy of Arlington, TX, Celestial Facarazzo of Phoenix, Az. Brothers and Sisters-in-law, Bobbie and David Fiedler of Bryan, TX, Saundra and John Karnes of Waco, Tx, and John and Caroline Osment of Arlington, Tx. Numerous nieces and nephews. Devoted Caregiver and friend, Apalonia (Paula) Ripley.

Pallbearers are Andrew Hazelrigg, Albert Mercer-Saenz, Albert Saenz, Gregory Lacy, Jerry Walters and
Franklin Potts. Honorary pallbearers, Raymond L. Golding, and the Friday Morning Bible Study Group.
