Marilyn Scott

Marilyn Scott, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and woman of deep faith, passed away at the age of 100 after a remarkable century filled with strength, adventure, devotion, and love.

Marilyn lived life with extraordinary energy and determination from an early age. She learned to swim before the age of three and carried that fearless spirit throughout her life. She was athletic, knowing how to box, play tennis, basketball, and water ski. She instilled in her three daughters a love of athletics, discipline, confidence, and perseverance.

Marilyn had a great sense of adventure. She delighted in travel and took her children all over Europe when the family lived overseas.

She was well educated, earning a university degree at a time when that accomplishment was far less common for women of her generation.

Above all, Marilyn was a devoted Christian whose faith guided every aspect of her life. A longtime member of Highland Baptist Church, she faithfully served others through prayer, ministry, and encouragement. She was active in Women’s Aglow, ministered to women in prison, and was known by many as a true prayer warrior whose compassion and steadfast faith touched countless lives.

Marilyn was also civically engaged and active in local precinct politics, believing strongly in service to both her community and her country.

She shared a devoted marriage with her husband, Rufus Winfrey Scott, and lovingly cared for him during his later years with unwavering commitment and grace.

Marilyn will be remembered for her strength, adventurous spirit, joyful heart, enduring faith, and deep love for her family. Her legacy lives on through her daughters and families: Kathleen Scott (Dennis), Jane Webb (Charles), Eileen Scott (Joseph Paul), and her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Brooke Gunning (Stafford), Megan Webb (Houston), Parker Webb (Maria Pia), Sienna, Ashtyn, and Caden Gunning, and Addie and Lucas Webb.

In lieu of a donation, should you desire, plant a tree that is native to your region; one that grows strong and brings joy. Name it Marilyn. Water & feed as needed; and feel free to tell the tree your joys & hardships. Our mother Marilyn always reached out to comfort and care for those around her. We like the idea of Marilyn trees sprinkled around providing shelter and comfort.
