Margie Anderson

Margie Lou Anderson of Chalk Bluff, Texas, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026. Margie was born June 8, 1935, in Waco, Texas and lived most of her life in the area. She attended Sacred Heart Academy in Waco during her elementary years and was the youngest of 6 siblings. Her father owned the Bolfing Food Store in Lacy Lakeview, where she had fond memories of working alongside her siblings in the family business. She loved basketball and played on the women’s basketball team at Connally High School.

Margie met her first husband, Don, at one of her basketball games while he was stationed at Connally Air Force Base in Waco. After their marriage, they welcomed their son, Don Jr., in 1953. Originally from Michigan, Don Sr. served in the military as a pilot but settled back in Waco with Margie and Don Jr. upon completion of his service. Don Sr. opened a mechanic shop in Waco and continued to race cars, water ski, and watch drive-in movies with Margie and Don Jr. in tow. Margie affectionately remembered the summer trips they took flying to Michigan with Don. In 1966, Don Sr. tragically died in a plane crash while flying himself and the friends who accompanied him to a benefit in Houston.

After the death of her first husband, Margie became one of the few women employed at General Dynamics building airplanes, working side by side with men doing the same job. Eventually, a friend introduced her to her second husband, Halbert Anderson. Halbert and Margie were married for 55 years and spent some of their best times traveling, gambling, and socializing with family and friends.

Margie started a career in real estate, becoming a licensed broker and maintaining her own business in Lacy Lakeview for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, watching Wheel of Fortune, and baking desserts. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Margie cherished spending time with children whether it was babysitting her nieces and nephews, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, neighbors, or family friends. Her Catholic faith was important to her as well, and she attended weekly Mass as long as she was able.

She is survived by her son, Don Haines, Jr., and his wife Teresa of Chalk Bluff, Texas; two grandchildren, Luke Haines and his wife Belinda and Laura Stern and her husband Edward; and two great-grandchildren, Kilian and William, along with many other family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20th, with the Rosary recited at 7:30 p.m., at Grace Temple Baptist Church in Waco, Texas. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21st at Crawford Cemetery in Crawford, Texas.
