Surrounded by love and held in God’s grace, our beloved mother, Guadalupe Moreno Contreras, peacefully entered eternal rest. She went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 26, 2026, leaving behind a profound sadness in the hearts of all who loved her—a love that will never be forgotten. We are comforted by the assurance that she is in the presence of our Heavenly Father and loved ones who have passed before her.
Guadalupe Deleon Moreno Contreras was born on March 28, 1938, in Marlin, Texas, to Remedios and Jesusa Moreno. Lupe and Joe F. Contreras were married on June 20, 1971. As a devoted mother and homemaker, Lupe raised two wonderful sons: Albert Contreras and his wife, Rose; and Patrick Contreras and his wife, Delsia. Lupe’s two sons blessed her with five amazing grandchildren: Ethan Contreras, Eliah Contreras, Elaina Contreras, Stephani Jonse, and Justin Delarosa; and three great-grandchildren: Arden Jonse, Emilia Jonse, and Isla Jonse, with another great-grandchild on the way. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. Her unwavering and unconditional love for her family and friends will forever remain in our hearts and be deeply cherished.
Lupe found great joy in caring for her family, cooking for loved ones, hosting holiday gatherings, and welcoming family and friends into her home. She also belonged to the organization Hija’s de Maria, the First Cursillistas retreat for women, and Acción Católica for the youth. She cared for numerous children over the years, leaving a lasting impression through her kindness, generosity, and devotion to others.
Lupe was fortunate to grow up in a large, loving family. She is survived by three sisters: Beatrice Pursley, Margarita Contreras, and Sister Rose Moreno of the Franciscan Sisters, Daughters of Mercy. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Pete Moreno, Antonio Moreno, and most recently John Moreno, as well as her parents, Remedios and Jesusa Moreno.
Pallbearers are Patrick Contreras, Albert Contreras, Ethan Contreras, John Paul Moreno, Adam Moreno, Efren Moreno, Mark Cardona, Eddy Moreno, and Danny Moreno. Honorary Pallbearers are Justin Delarosa, Antonio Deleon, and Manuel Deleon.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the friends and family who shared their love and support before and after Lupe’s heavenly passing, especially the Franciscan Sisters who shared their home, time, love, and devoted care. We would also like to thank Halcyon for the compassionate care provided by nurses Sierra and Katrina Sauceda, Social Worker Allison Lugo, and Maria Gomez, her caregiver, for their nurturing and attentive care in her final days. Lastly, we want to thank the congregation at St. Francis on the Brazos Catholic Church for all their prayers and support.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 4, 2026, at St. Francis on the Brazos Catholic Church. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with the rosary recited at 10:30 AM. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery will immediately follow the Mass.
