Lucia Perez

Lucia Mata Perez, 76, of Bellmead, Texas, passed peacefully in her home and was called home to the Lord on December 17, 2025.

Visitation will be held at OakCrest Funeral Home on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. with rosary at 6 p.m..
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 with The Very Reverend Benjamin Magnaye as Celebrant at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco.

Lucia was born on May 15, 1949, in Marlin, Texas. She lived her life with a lighthearted spirit, a generous heart, and a sweetness that was felt by everyone who knew her. Lucia was thoughtful, loving, and always carried a warm smile.

Lucia found joy in the simple, meaningful rhythms of life. She loved watching westerns, working on crossword puzzles, collecting movies, coloring in her books, and listening to Spanish music. One of her favorite pastimes was shopping at the flea market alongside her beloved husband, Johnny. Above all, Lucia cherished her family and the time she spent surrounded by those she loved most.

Lucia was preceded in death by her husband, John Perez; her parents, Pearl and Manuel Mata; her son, Juan Perez; her brothers, Tommy, Gilbert, Johnny, and Vincent Mata; and her sister, Mary Ortiz.

She is survived by her sons, David, Vincent, Gilbert Ortiz and wife Cynthia, Jacob Perez, and Joshua Perez; her daughters, Elaine Cottrell, Carmen Perez Salazar, Priscilla Perez, and Sabrina Perez; her brothers, George and Carlos Mata; her sisters, Delores Mann and Ninfa Villareal; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Lucia’s love did not end with her passing. It lives on in the laughter she shared, the kindness she gave, and the memories held close by those who loved her. Her presence remains in the comfort of remembering a life so beautifully lived.
