Lorraine Lape, 68, of Waco passed away May 14, 2026, at Providence Village after a 15-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Visitation will be June 8 in Waco at OakCrest Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m, with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated June 9, 10 a.m., at St. Louis Catholic Church with Father Ryan Higdon officiating and her childhood friend, Father Ed Koharchik, presiding. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Lorraine was born August 16, 1957, in Johnstown, PA, to Edward and Anna Marie Macy. She was their fifth child. She had a grand childhood of climbing trees and playing the French horn in the band and orchestra. During her senior year of high school, someone dared her to play the tuba in the marching band, which she is very proud to have accomplished! After graduation, she moved to Hawaii where her oldest brother, Edward, was stationed in the Navy. She fondly remembered how good the pineapple tasted.
After Hawaii, she moved to Denver to be by her sister Siobahn. There she met the love of her life Donald Lape. They had three children, Heather, Joshua and Timothy, and was proud to enroll them in a Catholic elementary school where she became a bus driver. They also lived in Massachusetts where they worked with pigs before they eventually moved to Waco, Texas to be near her parents.
Lorraine retired from H-E-B as a pharmaceutical technician in 2012 to care for her both her husband and her mother. She fondly remembered eating baked potato soup with her mother during that time. She was an inspiration to her son Joshua, who became a pharmacist.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Anna Marie Macy and her husband, Donald Lape.
Survivors include her daughter, Heather and husband, Jay, and their children, Jayson and Jaycee; son, Joshua and his wife, Carey, and their son, James; and son, Timothy, and his son, Wyatt.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the nursing and staff at Providence Village and Providence Hospice for their care in the last month.
In lieu of flowers, plants, etc.., Please make donations to Meals on Wheels at First Methodist Waco. This program really brought joy to Lorraine, providing different mementos with the meals, drawings from grandkids, holiday napkins, and crocheted items. The volunteers were amazing, and she always enjoyed the socialization with them, and “Doc” David Gardener who always had a treat for her dog, Fawnie, when he brought her Friday lunch.
