Rev. Lawrence Harold Padgett , age 84, of Waco, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Wesley Woods Alzheimer's Care Center with three generations of his loving family at his side.
Services
The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at OakCrest Funeral Home with his grandson Blake Padgett officiating assisted by the Rev. Ron Hill. Burial will be in the Harris Creek Cemetery.
Visitation
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 11, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque. A memorial video of his life will be shown at the visitation and at the service.
His Life Story
Rev. Padgett was born August 31, 1923 in South Bosque the youngest son of John Elijah Padgett and Lula Miller Padgett, and he has lived in Waco most of his life.
He was the grandson of James Jefferson Padgett, a justice of the peace in Waco for 20 years. He graduated from South Bosque High School, and attended Baylor University. He married Ruby Scoggins Nov. 3, 1941 in Waco.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He suffered from a long brave battle with Alzheimer's.
He worked for 16 years at Universal Atlas Cement Co., and then pastored Baptist churches in both Texas and Louisiana for 20 years before retiring in 1973. After retirement, he worked a short time at Word Publishing. He was a member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church.
Preceded in Death By
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; eight brothers; and a son-in-law, Don Davis.
Survivors
He is survived by his wife, Ruby; son, Joe Padgett and wife, Melissa of Harker Heights; daughters, Dorothy Davis of Waco and Betty Harper and husband, A.C. of DeRidder, La.; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and a step-great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers
Pallbearers will be Douglas Harper, Michael Harper, Andy Rosenkranz, Michael Arnold, Matt Culp and Denny Ray Padgett.
Honorary pallbearers
Honorary pallbearers will be Lonnie Ray Padgett, Howard Denard, J.C. Goff, Ronnie Padgett, Dudley Davis and Steve Davis.
