Juanita Hutson, lovingly known as “Meme” and “Noni” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passed peacefully from this life into eternity on September 8, 2026, in Austin, Texas, at the age of 93.
One of 17 children, Juanita was born on August 17, 1933, in Karnack, Texas, to I.V. and Maudie Hill. She married Sanford “Jack” Hutson, Jr., on May 22, 1950, at the age of 16 in Rockwall, Texas, after the two of them met at the bakery where they worked. They were together for nearly 65 years. They had three children, whom they dearly loved. Juanita lived a long life marked by dedication to her family and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and she stood by her husband's side as he spread the gospel faithfully. Through those years and beyond, church remained one of Juanita’s favorite places to be.
Juanita's love for the Lord was evident in every area of her life. She was an excellent wife and mother, and her life reflected deep kindness, quiet strength, and steadfast dedication. She loved spending time with her loved ones, and that love was expressed in both simple and lasting ways: in her care for others, the comfort and peace she created for them, and how she made the people in her life feel special. Those closest to Juanita knew the steadiness of her presence and the sincerity of her care. Her life stood as an example of devotion to family, devotion to God, and devotion to the everyday work of loving people well.
In the last years of Juanita's life, her daughter, Sandra, faithfully took care of Juanita and was always by her side. This loving care was a meaningful reflection of the bond they shared, as well as how Juanita poured into the people she loved.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Sanford “Jack” Hutson, Jr.; her sons, Michael Sanford Hutson and Paul Forest Hutson; her grandson, Stephen Singleton; her parents, I.V. and Maudie Hill; and 14 sisters and brothers.
She is remembered by her daughter, Sandra Singleton; her sister, Jane Gordon; her brother, Billy Hill; her grandsons, Dustin Hutson, Jarod Hutson, Michael Andrew Hutson, Jonathan Singleton, and Ricky Hiller; her granddaughters, Angela Glasscock, Shanna Hutson Hiller, Candace Sharp, and Amanda Matherne; her great-grandsons, Brett Glasscock, Eric Glasscock, Tre Matherne, Jace “Michael” Matherne, Tanner Sharp, Mason Alexander Sharp, Jason Hutson, Tristan Hutson, and Cash Carter Hutson; and her great-granddaughters, Ariella Singleton, Alexis Hutson, and Kayli Matherne; eight great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Juanita leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, hospitality, and gentle strength. She will be remembered with deep gratitude by those who knew her and experienced the warmth, peace, and care she so freely gave throughout her 93 years.
Juanita's family would like to express special thanks to Amedisys Hospice, whose staff cared for Juanita for 22 months, and to Chaplain Grady for his prayers of agreement and words of encouragement.
