Joseph Allen Salazar, born on September 4, 1980, in Waco, Texas to Laura and Mark Salazar, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, at the age of 45. While our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in knowing he is now at peace in heaven and embraced in the loving presence of the Lord.
Growing up, Joseph was always the “all-time” quarterback for his two brothers, a title he carried proudly. He loved taking trips to visit Aunt Jana’s house to spend time with his cousins Michael and Robert, and he looked forward to visits at Aunt Annie’s where everyone would gather and play board games into the late hours of the night. Those moments were filled with laughter and friendly competition and became some of the most cherished memories of his childhood. Joseph loved his video games and could often be found playing them through the wee hours of the night. He graduated from Waco High School in 1999, where he participated in show choir and truly enjoyed the performing arts.
Joseph worked as a security guard, a role he performed with dedication and pride. He especially enjoyed working at Baylor games and the Heart of Texas events, where he could be part of the excitement of the community while helping keep others safe. He valued the relationships he built and enjoyed being part of something larger than himself.
Joseph had a heart for service and faith. He previously volunteered for Friends for Life and made many meaningful friendships. He loved going to church at St. Francis, cherished the youth group he was part of, and was an advocate supporter of the Knights of Columbus. Later in life, Joseph attended River City Church, formerly Christian Life Church, where he found renewed purpose and new life within the community. There, he was deeply impacted by the guidance and friendship of Linus Gilbert, Clyde Fluitt, Craig Emmett, Jonathon Hiesberger, and Sandra Castro, who each played a meaningful role in nurturing him, strengthening his faith, and shaping his personal growth. Their encouragement and presence made a lasting difference in his life.
Joseph’s passions included spending time with family, watching the Dallas Cowboys, listening to country music, singing, and telling jokes filled with laughter. There was never a dull moment with Joseph. His humor, warmth, and joyful spirit were gifts he shared freely with everyone around him.
He was a phenomenal uncle. One of his favorite hobbies was buying gifts year-round for his niece and nephews, including season passes to Hawaiian Falls for all the kiddos as his way of saying, “Have a great summer.” He took immense pride in watching the new generation grow up and especially enjoyed receiving weekly highlights of their events and games. He was always everyone’s biggest supporter. His love for his family is unmatched and will forever remain in our hearts.
Joseph was preceded in death by his grandfather, GP Joe B. Aleman; his uncle, Joe “JOJO” Aleman; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Leonardo and Wanda Salazar; and his nephew, Scott Charles Salazar.
He is survived by his loving grandmother and devoted caregiver, Candeleria Aleman; his mother, Laura Salazar; and his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Mark and Veronique Salazar. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles, Angela Aleman, Ann Aleman, Ismael John Aleman, Lewis Aleman, Mr. and Mrs. Leon and Jana Dechant, and Joseph Salazar.
He leaves behind his beloved siblings, Mr. and Mrs. Scott and Juanita Salazar; Mr. and Mrs. Patrick and Emily Salazar; Theresa Salazar; Mr. and Mrs. Andrew and Ashlie Lozano; Bill Wasylyszyn; and Winter Salazar.
Joseph was a proud and loving uncle to Michael and Andraya Lozano, Santana Babbs, Jayson, Lian, and Tadeo Salazar. He was also blessed to have many cousins to enjoy life with.
