Joe Henry Gomez

Joe Henry Gomez, 69, passed away fighting cancer on May 21, 2026 in Waco, Texas. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at Waco Missions, 3316 Flewellen Road in Waco.

Joe was born in Corsicana, Texas on February 15, 1957 to Fidel and Sandra Gomez. He attended school for a short period of time then dropped out due to a speech impediment that caused difficulty for him to progress. Joe worked for Percy Medicine (before The Silos) alongside his mother.

At one point in his life, he experienced a change in his life that made him become disabled. Joe continued his life the best he could, even with his disabilities. He did not own a vehicle but rode his bike everywhere he could. He lived with his parents up until their deaths and then went on to rent an apartment in which he kept clean. He made friends at the apartment complex and would help other disabled neighbors that were worse off than him. He was well liked and made friends everywhere he went. He frequented Charro’s where the waiters already knew what he was going to order. Golden Corral was another favorite and again he made friends with the waitresses. Joe knew his banking business and the tellers there helped him call in for his balance often. He was very fond of his nieces and nephews and would make visits to see them on his bike.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Betty Gomez and Allie Gomez.

He is survived by his sisters, Angel Rivaz (Lupe), Fidela Ursua (Felix), Maria Aleman (Jimmy), Elsie Salazar (Charles), and Simona Gomez; as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Chateau Waco Nursing Facility and Bluebonnet Health Services, especially Julie and Lauren with the hospice team, the tellers at T.F.N.B., and a special thank you to Richard Hamlin for praying over our brother during his final hours of his life. Richard was his roommate at The Chateau Waco in room 205.
