Jerry Lynn Driver, 74, of Denton, Texas, passed away on March 20, 2026. Services will be held on March 27, 2026, with a viewing in the Oak Room at OakCrest Funeral Home in Waco, Texas from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a graveside service at McGregor Cemetery in McGregor, Texas at 1:00 p.m. His nephew, Gerald Beard, will be officiating.
Jerry was born on October 14, 1951, in Mexia, Texas, to William and Lottie Driver and was raised in Wortham, Texas. On April 15, 1971, he joined the Navy and proudly served for four years during the Vietnam War. During his service, he was stationed on the USS Mauna Kea, an ammunition ship responsible for rapid replenishment during the war. He traveled all over the world during those years and told countless stories that were always engaging to hear.
After his time in the military, Jerry worked a variety of labor-intensive jobs before eventually settling into a career as a truck driver, from which he later retired.
Jerry met the love of his life, Marcia Driver, in 1995 to whom he married January 25, 2001. He spent every day devoted to taking care of Marcia. He often said he had no idea how that tiny woman straightened him out, but he sure is happy she did.
Jerry was a hard worker his entire life, but his greatest gifts were storytelling, humor, and caring for others. He was happiest when making others happy. He told the best stories, many drawn from his own life, along with the funniest jokes and one-liners.
There is no better way to describe his heart than through the way he cared for others. From his daily calls to his daughter Dena, to showing up for his granddaughters every chance he could, to caring for his mother-in-law as she aged and forming friendships everywhere he went, Jerry lived a life of service. His devotion to ensuring Marcia was comfortable and well cared for throughout her long illness was unwavering. Even after her passing, he continued to care for those around him, often helping neighbors with rides to doctor’s appointments or the grocery store. There were no limits to how far he would go to help someone in need.
The hole to which he leaves in so many hearts is profound, but so is his love and legacy he leaves behind.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 23 years, Marcia Driver; parents, William and Lottie Driver; brother, Billy Driver; and sister, Betty Bosley.
He is survived by his daughters, Dena Johnson, Stacey Driver, and Jaime Harrison; brother, Bobby Driver; sister, Shirley Beard; granddaughters, Kendall and Kylie Johnson, Denise Johnson, Kacie Clark, Karson Harrison, and Gracie Harrison; grandsons, Chris Driver and William Coleman; one great grandson, Ryker Rivas; many nieces and nephews; and countless friends and family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital and the staff on the fifth floor. Your dedication, compassion, and kindness made an incredibly difficult time a little easier. Thank you for taking such wonderful care of Jerry, and for supporting Dena during his time in the hospital.
