Herminio Merced, Jr., 69, passed away Sunday morning, July 6, 2025, peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in New York on May 27, 1956, son of the late Maria Merced and Herminio Merced, Sr. He met the love of his life, Helen Compian, in San Diego, California- both attending boot camp in the Navy. They married on June 26, 1979 and celebrated 46 years of marriage. They built a beautiful life filled with deep devotion, laughter, and endless memories. His family was his life, and Herman was devoted to his loving children: Elizabeth, Herman III, Laura and husband Thaddeous, Christina and husband Hunter, his grandchildren: Michael, Nathan, Gabriel, Sophia, and Alex along with his family from Connecticut, his sisters, Marjorie, Tami and husband Pierre. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Herminio was a Navy submarine veteran who sailed on the USS Tunny and USS Augusta. He was stationed in Honolulu, HI and Groton, CT. He served his country with honor and pride before beginning his greatest mission of all- building a family. After his years in the military, he settled in Waco, Texas where he worked for a manufacturing company, Hercules and then devoted 10 years to TSTC before retiring.
To know Herman was to feel seen, known, and loved. He didn’t leave you guessing- he told you he loved you, and he showed it with his famous bear hugs that could squeeze the sadness right out of you. He was the life everywhere he was at, the loudest laugh in every room, and the first one to get up and greet you. His joy was contagious. His presence was unforgettable. Beyond the laughter and joy, he lived with purpose. He served God with a deep, abiding faith that touched everyone around him. He served his family with humility, strength, and tenderness. He believed in showing up with his whole heart, with open arms, and with a smile that could light up the darkest day. We will miss him more than words can say, but we rejoice in knowing he left this world as he lived in it: wrapped in love, surrounded by family, and held tightly in God’s grace. Rest well, Dad…you were and always will be our greatest gift.
The Merced family would like to give special acknowledgement to Baylor Scott and White Hospice and everyone who provided loving care for Herminio Merced, Jr. Our family respects the wishes of Herminio and will not be holding services.
