George J. Luther, 82, of Waco, passed away early Saturday morning, August 25, 2012 at a local hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the Providence Park Chapel with Monsignor Mark Deering as celebrant. Private burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in West with military honors from the United States Marine Corps. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Mr. Luther was born January 25, 1930 in Providence, Rhode Island to Frances and Albert Luther. He served in the Marine Corps from 1947 until 1952 in the amphibious tank group; as a drill instructor to recruits at Paris Island, South Carolina and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
George married Barbara Veselka in 1971. He worked as a life insurance manager and secured designations of LUTCF, FIC, CLU, CHFC and RFP. He served on the Waco Association of Life Underwriters for six years. He enjoyed volunteering at St. Catherine’s Chapel, singing Karaoke, writing poetry, fishing, photography and cooking.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Linda; and two grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; daughters, Eileen Breedlove and husband Guy, Cindy Plocher and husband, Tony, Karen Collins and husband, Mark, Sandra Keeley and husband, Nehil, Janice Thompson and husband, Don; his son, David and wife, Tessie; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Fuzzy Friend’s Animal Rescue or to a charity of your choice.
