After 93 remarkable years, Faye Nolte Lamb, passed away on January 28, 2026.
Faye was born on September 16, 1932, in Gatesville, Texas to Lera (Estes) and Heber Nolte. She grew up in the Gatesville area and graduated as valedictorian of her class at Gatesville High School in 1950. Eager to continue her love of learning, Faye graduated from Durham Business College in Dallas, Texas, and accomplished an impressive typing speed of 90 words per minute.
On July 3, 1952, Faye married Charles Lloyd Lamb of Oglesby, Texas. Faye was instrumental in Charles obtaining his PhD. Active in the educational programs where Charles taught and coached, Faye and Charles traveled to numerous small towns throughout Texas while raising their four girls. Although Faye and Charles divorced in 1970, Faye and her four girls established a home in Waco, Texas, where Faye was an administrative assistant for 27 years. She retired from Prudential Insurance (Mathis Company) in 1995. Always known for her work ethic, Faye continued to stay active with caring for her growing number of grandchildren. “Nanie”, as she was known, was always up for a game of Scrabble (in which she always won) or taking a trip to the dollar movie (in which she would bring her own snacks). A voracious reader in her own right, Nanie was always delighted to read to her children and grandchildren, and she was known to act out all the voices in the story.
Faye lived by her Christianity. The greatest lesson she shared with us is the importance of kindness and the act of showing love to one another, not just saying it. Although her home was always a haven for all who entered, she did not allow taking the Lord’s name in vain in her household. On the rare occasion that she was angered, one could hear a very loud “Oh, Fiddle-Faddle!” or “Good Criminy Horse Fat!”. She was happiest when hosting or attending family gatherings because she loved to laugh almost as much as she loved her family.
Since 1968, Faye was a devoted member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. Even in failing health, she faithfully watched church services on TV and communicated with her Sunday school group, the Faith/Agape class, whom she talked about often.
Faye was proceeded in death by her parents, Lera (Estes) and Heber Nolte; her sisters, Betty Jordan McCaleb and Lera Anne Nolte; and her daughter, Sheree Faye Lamb.
Faye is survived by her children, Tina “Pooly” Gordon and her husband, Dave Gordon; Kathy “Brown” Cox and her husband, Joe Cox; and Lisa “Scooge” Simpson and her husband, Lynn Simpson; grandchildren, Audrey Wells, Terri Cox, Travis Cox, Curtis Cox, Garrett Simpson and wife, Sonya Simpson, Fisher Simpson and wife, Nia Simpson, and Franco Weaver; and great-grandchildren, Reilly Bolden, Timothy Coleman, Lena Faye Wells, Sophia and Gabriella Simpson, and Levi Simpson.
Pallbearers will be her 5 grandsons: Travis Cox, Garrett Simpson, Franco Weaver, Curtis Cox, and Fisher Simpson as well as devoted friend and longtime neighbor, Sam Drake.
