Esther was born in Robertson County, Texas to David Lee Montrose and Dovie Dolly Coker Montrose.
Esther was a special woman that held herself to a high moral standard. She was the rock that our family depended on. She was an independent woman long before it was stylish to be. She was not afraid to do anything that needed doing, whether it was painting her house or battling Christmas shoppers in her department at work.
Mom was quietly proud of her accomplishments. She was double-promoted in high school and was a senior at only 15. She began working at a young age and worked most of her adult life. She worked at downtown Woolworth until she was moved to Woolworth in Westview. When Woolco opened she went to work there and worked her way up in management. She was conscientious about keeping her departments clean and well stocked. When Woolco closed, she went to work at Target. Again, she became a department manager. She worked there until retiring in 1993.
She was surrounded in her last days by many loved ones.
Esther was proceeded in death by her parents, brother, PW (Big Boy) Goolsby, James Lee Montrose, sisters, Georgie Ollie Betterton, Dixie Marie Castilow, and Nelda Patterson, grandson, Jimmy Brown, granddaughter, Misty Brown, great grandson, Virgil Brandt Horning, Jr.
Esther is survived by Daughters; Elaine Atwell, Linda Hill and Patty Norman and husband Larry. Sons; Donald Brown and wife Alice, and Larry Brown. Sister, Carol Warren and husband Frank; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
