With both sorrow and deep gratitude, we announce the passing of Eloisa (Lois) Becerra Ochoa. She entered eternal rest, peacefully at home on Friday June 6, 2025, at the glorious age of 81.
Born to Joe and Mary Becerra on September 27, 1943, in Moody, Texas. She lived a life rooted in faith, family, and love. She was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and her faith was the guiding light in all that she did. She faced life’s joys and challenges, always leaning on her Savior in times of need and rejoicing in His goodness. Her Bible was never far from reach. Having read it cover to cover multiple times was something she was so proud of.
She found great joy in caring for others, and one of the ways she expressed that love was through cooking. Whether it be her chicken mole, tamales, chicken and white gravy, or one of her famous cakes. Eloisa believed that food could bring people together — and in her home, it always did. Her recipes were more than just instructions; they were her way of showing those she loved how much they meant to her by feeding them and their souls.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Ochoa, Sr.; parents, Joe and Mary Becerra; sisters, Anita Caldera and Lillia Monreal; brothers, Abel Becerra, Alfred Becerra, David Becerra, Martin Becerra, Louis Becerra, and Roman Becerra; sons, Ralph Castillo, Jr. and Robert Castillo; daughters, Rosemary Mendoza and Rita Enriquez; grandson, Thomas (Bubba) Enriquez; great grandchildren, Maya Villarreal and Matthew Liles; her precious dog Chloe; and so many more loved ones.
Eloisa is survived by her sons, Jesse Castillo (Georgia) of Seattle, Washington and Raymond B. Ochoa, Jr. (Shawnna) of Hockley, Texas; goddaughter, Tamara Ruiz; stepchildren, Linda (Paul) James of Conroe, TX., Kathleen Leon of Chicago, IL., Cynthia (Richard) Budzyn of Houston, TX., Teresa Gir of Houston, TX., Ronald Ochoa, Sr. (Carmen) of Houston, TX., and Rebecca (Celedonio) Roque of Houston, TX.; sisters, Emilia Gonzales of Waco, TX., Noemi (Fred) Ruiz of Waco, TX., and Ruth Sustaita of Gilroy, CA.; 21 grandchildren; 65 great grandchildren; 30 great-great grandchildren; many precious nieces and nephews; and her long-time caregiver Leila…each of whom was blessed by her unwavering faith and boundless love.
A viewing will be held on Thursday June 19th from 6-8 PM at OakCrest Funeral Home in Waco.
The Service will be held on Friday, June 20th at 10:00 AM, at OakCrest Funeral Home. Interment to immediately follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
The Pallbearers are Eric Enriquez, Christopher Castillo, Justin Castillo, Trey Castillo, Jesse Castillo, Jr. and Raymond Ochoa, III. Honorary Pallbearers are Tamara Ruiz and Diana Castillo.
Friends and family are invited to gather and honor a woman who walked closely with God and left behind a legacy of faith and love. We take comfort in knowing that Eloisa is now home with her Lord, hearing the words she longed for: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
We invite everyone to join us at Papa Bear’s after the interment to celebrate Eloisa’s life. 5102 N. 19th Street, Suite 103 Waco, TX. 76708.
