Deborah “Debbie” Wright-Hood, born in Queens, NY, on May 8, 1961, peacefully passed away on February 2, 2026, surrounded by her family and closest friends. Debbie had an extraordinary gift for loving people. This included her immediate family, but extended far beyond and includes, but not limited to, her boys’ friends, her grandchildren’s teammates, employees, co-workers, franchise owners, and school board members. Once you were in her world, you were fully seen, welcomed, and cared for.
Debbie was the human version of the Energizer Bunny. Her fast-paced walk exemplified the way she lived her life. She was full of purpose, and you never saw her without a smile. Though she was organized, prepared, and always productive, she would drop any plans she had to listen, help, or show up for the people she loved. She embodied love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control.
Faith, family, friends, food, and fun were central to her life, especially Sunday dinners that gathered family and extended family week after week. She deeply valued time together, she served those around her humbly, used her resources selflessly, and somehow always found more to give. You could find her delivering Thanksgiving turkeys, braving early Black Friday shopping, organizing the family, or pulling out a gift card out of her purse “just in case”.
When things did go wrong, she would smile and say, “Jeez Louise” or “Cheese O’ pizza”, reminding everyone that joy was always a choice.
She faced many trials that would be insurmountable problems for most people, but she had a unique ability to find a way and to do it with joy. Death was no different for her. We all prayed for a miracle to save her life, but she was already working on a way to make miracles for others. Death may have attacked her brain, but it did not destroy her body. Being so physically healthy, her organs and tissues will be used to create miracles of life for others and their families. She could still touch nearly a hundred lives. Death only presented Debbie another opportunity to love others, even some she had never met. A selfless servant until the very end!
We know without a doubt she heard the words “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald J. Dwyer and Theresa Dwyer.
She is survived by her loving children and grandchildren, Chris Wright, Lindsey Wright, Cooper & Carli Wright, and Chase, Rebekah & Liam Hood; her siblings, Donna Dwyer, Dina Dwyer-Owens & her husband Mike, Donald J. Dwyer, Jr. & his wife Mary, Douglas Dwyer & his wife Gayla, and Darren Dwyer. She leaves behind a growing legacy of nieces and nephews, as well as numerous friends that she adopted into her family.
Many years ago, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and let His light shine through her with incredible brightness and brilliance. Her heart’s desire is that all would find this precious gift of a personal relationship with Him that starts here on earth and lasts for eternity. We find great peace that she is with Jesus now and forever.
