David Ernest Schlemmer, 68, left this world peacefully on August 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Hewitt, Texas. David was born on April 25, 1958, in Waco, Texas, the son of William Otto Schlemmer and Grace Lorene Schlemmer. Growing up in Waco, he developed a strong work ethic and a deep love for his family. After graduating from Jefferson-Moore High School, David pursued a career in printing and engraving, a field to which he dedicated himself for over 20 years.
A loving husband to his wife, Dolores Guerra Schlemmer, David was a pillar of strength and support for his family. Together, they raised two children: Gilbert Schlemmer and Matthew Schlemmer. He was a devoted father, always there to offer guidance, love, and a hearty laugh. He cherished family gatherings, and his presence during holidays and celebrations brought warmth, laughter, and joy to those around him.
David had many passions in life, including traveling, cooking, football, and Western TV shows, all of which he enjoyed sharing with his children and grandchildren. He was best known for his intense love and devotion to Dolores, his wife of 45 years. His sense of humor and playfulness could light up any room.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dolores Schlemmer; his children, Matthew Schlemmer and Gilbert Schlemmer (partner Damiana Perez); his three granddaughters, Danielle, Rachel, and McKenzie Schlemmer; and his three great-grandchildren, Isla, Sophia, and William. He is also survived by his siblings, Carolyn Carlisle, William B. Schlemmer, Shirley Grigsby (husband Edward), and Dianne Stone (husband Craig), as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Grace Schlemmer, and his brother, Arthur Schlemmer.
The family would like to thank Baylor Scott & White Hospice, with special thanks to Amber Garland and Tasha Price for their loving care and dedication.
