Cruz "Cookie" Guerra

On August 5, 2025, Cookie was called home to be with the Lord, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on November 25, 1954, Cookie lived her life boldly. She loved deeply, laughed often, and never once held back her opinion — especially when it came to her favorite Boyz, the Dallas Cowboys. Sundays were for family and football.

Cookie worked for 30 years with Wolfe Nursery in Waco and then with Residence Inn until her retirement, making many lifelong friends along the way.

Her faith was the foundation of her life. She believed in the power of prayer, the strength of family, and the goodness of God — even on the hard days. If she teased you, it meant she loved you.

Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace in the presence of our Lord. Cookie was truly one of a kind — a faithful servant, and a woman who brought joy and laughter to all who knew her. We’ll miss her more than words can express, but we know her legacy will carry on through every life she touched.

Cookie is survived by her brother, Gilbert Guerra of Waco; sister, Dolores Schlemmer and husband David of Waco; niece, Teresa Pruitt of Salado; nephews, Gilbert Schlemmer and partner Damiana Perez, Matt Schlemmer, and Joe Nicholas Guerra and wife Suzanne, all of Waco; great nieces, Lexi and Jordan Pruitt, Danielle, Rachel, and McKenzie Schlemmer; great nephew, Joe Alonzo Guerra; as well as numerous family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas V. Guerra and Gregoria A. Guerra of Waco; brother, Joe A. Guerra of Waco; and beloved sister-in-law, Reta Guerra of Waco.
