Charlotte Anne Phillips

Charlotte Phillips was born in Waco, Texas to Ella Clay (Jones) Philips and James Ray Phillips. She was primarily reared by her maternal grandparents, Katherine and James Ratliff in Waco.

She attended Waco High School, graduating in 1959. She worked at multiple jobs in the DFW area and in Washington state before returning to Waco. She worked at Graham Embroidery, and later as a draftsman in the construction industry and at the Veterans Administration Hospital.

In 1979 she moved to Austin and worked in the architectural field as a construction specifier. Later she was served as a contract manager for the city of Austin.

Charlotte met her partner, Margaret Sanders, in 1982 in Austin, and the two continued life together until Charlotte’s passing. They moved to Rockville, Maryland in 1989 when Charlotte took a position with a DC-area architectural firm.

In 1991, they returned to Texas, settling in Waco where they had many friends and family. Charlotte worked at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission until she retired in 2003, returning to work between 2005-6.

Charlotte had a quirky and sarcastic sense of humor. She liked games, gardening and reading. She and Margaret enjoyed live theatre and traveling and took many trips throughout their years together. Charlotte loved animals, especially her many dogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; and her brothers, Paul Alexander, William Phillips and Peck Phillips.

She is survived by her wife, Margaret (Maggie) Sanders; her sister, Deborah Phillips; and her stepson, Philip Wooldridge. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a host of lifelong friends and family.
