Charles Laine

Charles L. Laine, 80, formerly of China Spring, went home to be with his beloved Savior, Friday, August 24, 2012 at his residence in Cypress, after years of battling congestive heart failure. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Weldon Bailey, Jr. officiating. Visitation with his family will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Charles was born July 7, 1932 in Waco to Rose and Harry Laine. He attended Waco High School and graduated in 1951. He was on the 1948 State Championship football team. Charles attended the University of North Texas with a scholarship in football. He was in officer training school with the Marine Corps and upon graduation; he went into active duty for two years. After serving his country for 20 years in the Marine Corps Reserve, he retired as a Major. Charles retired from General Motors/AC Delco after 32 years of employment.

Charles loved being in nature, nurturing animals, playing his mandolin and listening to gospel music. His life was devoted to the love of God and the love of his family which was the most important thing to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Laine; and his sister, Wanda Schafer.

Charles is survived by his wife of 58 years, Charlyne Laine; four children; daughters, LuAnne Laine of Austin, Linda and husband, Patrik Ogheden of Cypress, Leslie and husband, Glenn Lewis of Lubbock and his son, Charles Laine, Jr. of Austin; his brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Cookie Laine of Austin; sister-in-law, Treleta Laine of Valley Mills; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Carl Crow, Sr. of Austin; five grandchildren, Audrey and Sophia Sherman of Austin, Taylor and Preston Lewis of Lubbock and Denis Ogheden of Cypress; and numerous nieces, nephews and many loving friends.

The family wishes to express their grateful appreciation for the loving care given to Charles by his many medical teams especially Dr. Dinh, Dr. Tawa, Dr. Czelusta, Angie Rowan, NP and Houston Hospice for their care and comfort.

Memorials in Charles’ memory can be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project or to M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
