Charles Miller Koch, 78, of Waco passed away Saturday, August 24, 2013. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home with Rev. Suzanne Smith and Rev. Jimmy C. Sansom officiating. A visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard. There will not be an interment following the service.
Charles was born May 7, 1935 in Gatesville, TX to Gus and Sophie (Mueller) Koch. He attended Gatesville and Killeen High schools. He graduated High School from Palestine High School, in Palestine. Charles received a Bachelor degree in accounting from Baylor University. He first worked for Tenneco Oil Co. and finished his career with Witco Chemical Co., Houston, TX. He retired after 29 years in 1995.
Charles was an active member of the Rotary club in Houston for 22 years. He served as secretary, treasurer, VP, and president during that time. He was a Paul Harris Fellow. He served as Scout Master with the club’s handicapped scout troop. While in Rotary he served on the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston for over 10 years.
Charles moved to Waco in 2000 after the death of his wife, Sarah. He worked for seven years for H & R Block in Pearland and Waco. One of his greatest joys and satisfaction was his volunteer work for Providence Hospice in Waco. He volunteered from October 2006 until December 2010.
Charles is survived by a daughter, Kim Patierno and husband, Steve of Chapel Hill, N.C.; son, Kenneth Koch of Houston; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Nicole, Brendon and Justin Patierno of Chapel Hill, N.C.; two brothers, Kermit P. Koch and his wife, Cathy of Waco, and James Koch and his wife, Martha of Lorena.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 475 Wesley Chapel Rd., Gholson, TX 76705; Providence Hospice, 6700 Sanger Avenue, Waco, TX 76710; or a charity of your choice.
Pallbearers will be Troy Koch, Dr. Jay York, John Koch, Bubba Koch, Kolton Koch, and Landon Koch.
