Betty Vasquez Gutierrez, age 98, of Waco, Texas passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born on October 24, 1927 in Bishop, Texas to Ambrosio and Ysabel Vasquez. She was the heart and soul of her family and will always be remembered as the beloved matriarch who brought everyone together. Betty loved spending time with family at gatherings and celebrations and could often be found enjoying a dance around the floor. She had a passion for cooking and was well known for making homemade tortillas not only for her family, but also for the neighborhood children who frequently stopped by her home. She also enjoyed playing lotto tickets and sharing laughter with those around her.

Grandma Betty’s home was a place filled with love, joy, and countless memories. Her flashy personality, warm laughter, and caring spirit touched everyone who knew her.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Norma Martinez, Gloria Verastegui and husband Felix, Linda Ramos and husband David, Virginia Gutierrez, Isabel Santiago and husband Pedro, Valentine Gutierrez, Rosie Duarte and husband Jesse, and Josie Baker and husband Donald; her sons, Robert Gutierrez, Richard Gutierrez and wife Dolores, Raymond M. Gutierrez, Sr., Manuel Gutierrez and wife Dolores, and Roy Gutierrez; her sisters, Tomasa Juarez, Eulojia Fuentes, and Janie Casteneda; along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ambrosio and Ysabel Vasquez; husband, Robert Gutierrez; brothers, Ramon Vasquez, Seferino Vasquez, and Henry Parra; sisters, Sara Perez, Micaela Vasquez, and Emilia Villafana; son-in-law, Johnny Martinez; and grandsons, Carlos Martinez, Sammie Sedillo, and Gilbert Sauseda.

A visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM, with the Rosary recited at 5:30 PM, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., Waco, TX 76710. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2621 Bagby Ave., Waco, TX 76711, officiated by Father Benjamin Magnaye. Burial will be immediately following the Mass at Oakwood Cemetery, 2124 South 5th Street, Waco, TX 76706. A reception will follow the burial at Sacred Heart Parish Hall, 2710 Speight Ave., Waco, TX 76711.

Pallbearers will be John Martinez, Anthony Martinez, Willie Rosario, Christopher Sauseda, Gabriel Sauseda, Angelo Ramos, Christopher Sauseda, Jr., Rudy Sedillo, Israel Sedillo, Andrew Duarte, Rudy Monrial, Jordan Gutierrez, Manuel Gutierrez, Jr., and Raymond Gutierrez, III.

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Gutierrez, Manuel Gutierrez, Sr., Eric Gutierrez, and Robert Sedillo, Jr.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to hospice care nurse Kelly Meyer for her compassion, care, and support during Betty’s final days.

Betty’s love, strength, and devotion to family will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
