Alicia V. Montoya, 79, of Waco, went to be with the Lord on June 19, 2026, peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. The visitation will be from 6pm-8pm on Sunday, June 28th at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Drive, Woodway, Texas with the rosary starting at 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Monday, June 29th at St. Louis Catholic Church, 2001 N. 25th Street, Waco, Texas. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Alicia was born on February 7, 1947, in Rosebud, Texas to Roy (Raul) and Nellie (Manuela) Veracruz. She attended University High School and graduated in 1965. After high school, she attended 4-C Business College in Waco. She worked at Rich-Knit, Barron’s/Cardinal Health, Hillcrest Hospital, JCPenney’s, Neurosurgical Associates, and was still working up until her cancer diagnosis at Waco Psychological Associates.
She loved shopping, spending time with family, baking, cooking, and sewing. She was known around Waco as the “Cake Lady” for the many years that she baked for family and friends. She loved listening to Elvis Presley and collecting any kind of Elvis memorabilia she could get her hands on. She also loved going to play bingo, going on her trips to Winstar Casino and listening to Tejano music while drinking her Dos XX. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, work family, and taking trips and spending holidays with her family.
Alicia was an amazing mother, grandmother, daughter, cousin, aunt, and friend to all. She would always lend an ear if you needed someone to talk to and was always there for the people she loved no matter what.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Nellie; brother, Raymond; grandmother, Concha Veracruz; as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is survived by her son, Michael A. Montoya of Waco; daughter, Melissa M. Ramos (Joe Angel) of Waco; three grandchildren, Ryan A. Montoya of Waco, Ashley M. Mireles (Juan) of San Antonio, and Caitlin R. Escobedo (Manuel) of Waco; as well as two great grandchildren, Jet and Mateo Mireles of San Antonio, and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Montoya, Jordan Minnix, Brady Gilstrap, Chris Riggins, Matthew Campos, Manuel Escobedo, James Guerra, and Juan Mireles. Honorary pallbearers will be Ashley Mireles, Caitlin Escobedo, Alex Guerra, Jet Mireles, and Mateo Mireles.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Texas Oncology and Providence Hospice (Community Healthcare) for all their care and support for our mother and grandmother. We would also like to give a special thanks to all of her work family for the love and support they gave to her and our family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
