Obituary for Rita Faye Schormann

Rita Schormann, 82, of China Spring, passed away on October 3, 2022. A service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 5, at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Waco.

Rita Faye Schormann was born April 7, 1940 in Mattoon, Illinois to Fred Gerald and Helen Louise (Dobbs) Morgan. She is preceded in death by her father, mother, and husband, Randall. She is survived by her son Daniel, daughter Lisa, Lisa’s husband Clayton, and their son Ethan.

Rita was raised in central Illinois, graduated Valedictorian of her high school class and attended Eastern Illinois University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology. She met the love of her life, Randy, in 1959. They were united in marriage from June 11, 1961 until Randy’s passing in February of this year. She went on to teach high school and middle school science for more than 35 years.

During her retirement, Rita became a gifted quilter who won numerous awards and was well known in Waco and the surrounding areas for her amazing artistry. One of her friends described her as the “premier quilter in Waco.” Some of her greatest joys were creating quilts for friends and family and sharing her knowledge with others.

Rita was beloved by everyone who knew her. She was a gifted teacher, an inspiration to many, and lived a life of grace and humbleness. Rita was an amazing mother, grandmother, wife, and friend. She will be greatly missed.

Rita’s family would like to especially thank Community Healthcare of Texas/Hospice for the compassionate care and support during her final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Community Healthcare of Texas/Hospice or a charity of your choice.
