Paul Anthony Scardaville
August 20, 1930 - September 20, 2022

Paul Anthony Scardaville, 92, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2022 in Waco, Tx. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Paul was born August 20, 1930, in Queens, NY, to Anthony Scardaville and Elizabeth Pace Scardaville. Paul was the youngest of four with three sisters, Viola Oelberger, Adele Douglas, and Irene Blass. In 1958 Paul married Helen Anna Urbon, whom he had met when he took ballroom dancing lessons in which she was the instructor, and they initially settled in Northport, NY. Paul and Helen were married for 55 years until her death in 2014.

Paul enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1950, where he was an Aviation Electrical Technician and achieved the rank of Sergeant prior to his honorable discharge in 1952. He graduated from St. John’s University with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and began his career in the aviation battery industry. Paul also owned and operated a laundromat in Patchogue, NY, which he sold when he accepted a position with Sonotone Corporation at their facility in Cold Spring, NY. After Marathon Battery’s purchase of the Sonotone site, Paul and family moved to Valley Mills, Tx in 1971 when he was transferred to Marathon’s Waco facility. Paul then moved to Valdosta, Ga. In 1979 when he accepted a position as Director of Engineering with Saft America, Inc., and then back to Waco 1995 until he retired as a Vice President at Marathon. Paul was a recognized expert in his field and published papers in Analytical Chemistry Magazine and the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Magazine.

Paul was an avid bowler for most of his life and served as President of the Valdosta Bowling Association. Paul loved animals and had many pets; a few were rescues but most seemed to find him and he could never turn them away.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Elizabeth; his sisters, Viola, Adele, and Irene; and his wife, Helen.

Paul is survived by his daughter, Theresa Johnson of Ft. Worth, Tx; his son, Edward Scardaville and his wife, Ann Scardaville of Austin, Tx; his son, David Scardaville of Houston; his granddaughter, Samantha Tellez and her husband, Tony Tellez of Ft. Worth, Tx; his granddaughter, Savannah Scardaville of Houston, Tx; and his two great-grandchildren, Lucy Tellez and Henry Tellez.
