Obituary for Millie Singleton

Mildred (Millie) Irene O'dell Singleton went to her eternal home on Wednesday, February 17, 2021. Millie was born March 15, 1934, one of eight siblings born in Katonah, New York, to Margaret and Ernest O'dell.

Millie married Matthew Francis Singleton, Jr. on Oct. 28, 1950, in Mt. Kisco, New York, where they began married life. Matthew's career took the family to Illinois and then to Hillsboro Texas, where they made their home and raised their family.

Millie moved to Waco after the death of her husband in 1983 when she began working at Richland Mall. She loved talking with mall walkers, her co-workers, and the customers at Kay Jewelers and Gordon Jewelers where she made lifelong memories helping others choose and design engagement rings, wedding bands, and one of a kind jewelry. Never meeting a stranger, she ended her career at Richland Mall working at the information desk until it closed.

A social butterfly, Millie was known as 'the little red headed lady' at the information desk at Providence Hospital. She loved her job as a volunteer at the hospital and the Breast Center, interacting with others. She cherished her friendship with the ladies she worked with. They had a great time together, you could see them laughing and enjoying each other's company behind the desk. Millie always loved a good time, she embraced life that way. She treasured her daily talks with her sister, Bea, talking several times a day.

A devoted Cowboy fan, her family often got together to watch the game, but had more fun watching Millie watch the game, that was the real entertainment. The true center of her life, however, were her children, and being 'Nana' to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. You could depend on her to be at your graduation, shower, football or basketball game, dance recital, or holiday get together. She loved them and they loved her back.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Matthew Singleton Jr.; her son-in-law, Jerry Kotter; and beloved grandson, John R. Nichols, Jr.
