Obituary for Maria Lorie Varela

Maria Lorie Varela has passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2022. She left to be with our heavenly father. Maria was a loving and caring mother, daughter, grandma, sister, aunt, and a friend.

Her Memorial Rosary Service will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022 at OakCrest Funeral Home chapel.

Maria Varela was born on April 22, 1945, in Douglas, Arizona to Elena Becerra and Delfino Rangel, Sr. She had worked at Marathon for 20 years until she retired. Our mom was a very strong person, a loving and caring person. She was always there for us when we needed her. She was the type of person who would help if you asked for help. She loved to listen to music, do puzzle books, color, draw, and watch movies. She had a passion for baking cakes. She loved spending quality time with her family and friends, especially her grandkids and great grandkids.

Maria Varela was preceded in death by her mother, Elena Becerra; her father, Delfino Rangel, Sr.; her daughter, Arline B. Castillo; son, Daniel Hernandez, Jr.; two brothers, Delfino Rangel, Jr., and Paul Rangel; Nephew, Evertt Jerome Campos.

Survivors include Rolando Varela, Sr. from Waco; her daughter, Elsie Kageler and husband, Kenneth, from Waco; sons, Jose Varela from Waco, Eddie Hurtado, from Robinson, TX; sisters, Janie Campos, from Amsterdam Netherlands, Maria Millhouse and husband, Larry from Alice, TX, Julia Lozano and husband, Ben from Dallas, TX, Inez Gecarra, from Victoria, TX; brother, Santiago Rangel and Wife, Lupe from Tucson, Arizona; she had many nieces and nephews; she had 6-grandkids; and 16 great-grandkids. She also had two best friends that were like sisters to her. They were always there for her. Dolores Monzo and husband, Louis from Waco, they were friends for 40 years. Stella Sutton from Waco, they were friends for 20 years.

We all loved Maria. She will be deeply missed. Love you mom forever in our hearts <3!
