Obituary for Larry "Glenn" Gilbert

Larry GLENN Gilbert was born on October 28, 1954 in Waco, Texas and passed away to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on February 13, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Jerome Gilbert & Dorothea Malone Gilbert of Waco, Texas. Glenn is survived by his brother, Paul Gilbert & wife Frances of Dallas, his sister, Karen Gilbert Hartley & husband, Michael of Allen, & his sister, Susan Crain & husband, Jim of Waco, Texas.

Uncle Glenn is also survived by his nieces, Marcy Ann Bryant of Justin & Kristy Hartley Walters of Trenton & nephews Gary Crain of Colorado, Joshua Gilbert of Dallas, Daniel Gilbert of Dallas, & Taylor Hartley of Princeton. He will be greatly missed by his Great-Nieces & Nephews & his many Friends.

On May 15, 1977, Glenn earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from the University of Alabama. In 1979, he earned his Texas State Teaching Certificate from Baylor University.

Glenn taught at the 7th & James Adult Learning Center from 1981-1984 & 1987 -1994, helping adults to learn to read, achieve their GED’s & obtain US Citizenship. He was also a volunteer teacher for the University Middle School Chess Club teaching 6th, 7th, & 8th grade students to play Chess & compete in UIL tournaments thru WISD for many years.

From the age of 16, Glenn worked at grocery stores, convenience stores, service stations, a Café in Missouri, Mexia State School & Westlake Monograms as a bookkeeper. In 2005, he filed for Disability because of his Becker Muscular Dystrophy. He was also the Primary Care Provider for his Mother for 13 years from 2006 to 2019.

Glenn was an active Member of 7th & James Baptist Church for 40 years.
“When Glenn could no longer walk in his Faith in God, because of his MD,
he Power-chaired it!” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10.

Memorial Services will be held at 7th & James Baptist Church at 2 PM on Monday, February 21, 2022.
