Joe R. Olvera, Sr.
January 12, 1933 - June 26, 2022

Joe R. Olvera, Sr., of Waco passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at the age of 89. There will be a visitation time at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Thursday, June 30, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m., immediately following the visitation time. A private burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park.

Joe was the son of Cecilia and Joe Olvera of Abilene, Texas. Joe was born on
January 12, 1933 in Abilene, Texas. On May 5, 1952, he married the love of his life, Gloria Sustaita in Abilene. Gloria preceded him in death on April 12, 2006.

Joe worked for Abilene Community College for several years. Joe and Gloria moved to Waco where they raised their 8 children. He worked at Ozark Leather Co. for many years until his retirement. He was a faithful member and volunteer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and also enjoyed dancing and spending time with his family.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife; his son, Joe R. Olvera, Jr.;
his two sisters, Emma Herrera and Mary Luna; and his four brothers, Morris
Hernandez, Mike Olvera, Manuel Hernandez and Rudolph Hernandez, all of Abilene.

He is survived by his three daughters, Angie Perez and husband, Larry, of Waco,
Josie Delossantos of Waco, and Gloria Tanner and husband, Brad, of Riesel; and his four sons, Gene Olvera and wife, Lydia, of Waco, Mario Olvera and wife, Josie, of Waco, Paul Olvera and wife, Irene, of Waco, and Secilio Olvera of Waco; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Albert Sais, Jr., Gene Olvera, Jr., Joe Olvera IV, Mario Olvera, Jr., Phillip Olvera, Stetson Thompson, Justo Perez and Joshua Olvera.

Joe was a resident for many years at Royal Manor, Waco. The family appreciates their care and support. Also, thank you to Bluebonnet Hospice for their services.
