Obituary for James Stanley Farris

James Stanley Farris, 76, of Waco, passed away on January 20, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer and other health complications. Services will be at 6:00 PM on Sunday, January 30, at the OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, Waco, Texas to be officiated by Pastor Jeromy Connell from the Heart of Texas Cowboy Church.

James was born September 9, 1945, in Wheeler, Texas to Jack Marshall Farris and Maggie Mae Crowley. He studied at McLean High School until 1961, received a GED in Frank Philips College in 1966, and in 1987 took a course in Electronics Systems Technology at Texas State Technical Institute in Amarillo. James loved football, playing and coaching for a team in his younger years. Whenever someone is in need, he wouldn’t hesitate to offer help to the extent of his ability, even saving people’s lives in danger--when he survived a relative drowning in the ocean and rescuing someone whose car fell off a cliff while he was driving.

He started a firewood business in 1991 while still working but went full time after retirement where he felled trees, cut, split, and delivered firewood. He had worked for 12 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for facilities maintenance; and in 2005, went to Iraq as a contractor in the Project Management Office as an Expediter for 57 months. He also drove trucks for 3 years, a hobby he is fond of.

He temporarily moved to the Philippines, staying for almost 6 years with the love of his life, Emerlita “Miles” Dispo Farris, whom he met in February of 2011. He also took on the role of father to her 2 children, Daphnie Dianne, and Sidney Nicole. There was strong mutual love between James and the children. He and his wife eventually settled in Waco, Texas in 2018.

James was a kind, righteous, and loving husband, dad, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. He loved his dogs Gus, Lacy, and Angel. Being prayerful, he talked about God’s Word and embodied His love to everyone, being His great servant and keeping a strong relationship with Him that he was able to evangelize a few to believe in the Lord.

He was preceded in death by his son Jeremiah Farris and daughter Martha Towles. Survivors include his beloved sons Jack Farris and James Finney; daughters Christin Evans, and Beverly Ward; grandkids and great-grandchildren; as well as his wife Miles Farris, and stepdaughters Daphnie Dianne and Sidney Nicole Bernardino.
