Obituary for Gail Elaine Garland (Abraham)

Gail Abraham Garland passed from this worldly life to the heavenly realm on January 12, 2020 at the age of seventy-five. She and her twin brother, Dale were the youngest of eight children born to Albert and Ethel Abraham in Olivia, Texas, a small Swedish farming community on the Gulf coast.

Gail graduated from Texas Women’s University in 1967 with a Nursing degree and worked in both Waco hospitals as an R.N. over a twenty year period. She was also a certified wound care nurse and served as the medical sponsor of the United Ostomy Association for many years. She was a compassionate caregiver with a caring heart for those with special needs.

She married John Garland in 1967. She and John raised their three daughters while residing at Possum Kingdom Lake for fifteen years before moving to Waco in 1986. She was a full time mom for those early years before resuming her nursing career in Waco.

Gail is survived by her husband, John Garland of Waco and three daughters, JoAnna Marshall and husband, Dr. Scott Marshall of Rockwall, Dianna Garland of Houston and Dr. Lynna Cherry and husband, Paul Cherry of San Antonio. In addition to her daughters, her five grandchildren were her most precious blessings. They are Bailey and Abby Marshall of Rockwall and John Paul, Kate and Grace Cherry of San Antonio.
Her parents preceded her in death along with one sister and one brother. She is survived by one sister, four brothers and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gail was a lifelong Christian and worshiped with fellow Christians at the Church of Christ that meets at 2800 Lake Shore Drive. Her services will be held there on Friday, January 17 at 11 am. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 16 from 6 to 8 pm at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be in the form of donations to Fosters Home for Children in Stephenville, Texas.
