Obituary

Edna Koen Davis
October 26, 1930 – March 11, 2020

Edna Louetta Koen Davis, 89, passed away on March 11, 2020. Private family service will be held Monday, March 16, 2020 at OakCrest Funeral Home.

Edna was born October 26, 1930 in Oakwood, Oklahoma to Bob and Mattie Wanzer Koen and was a citizen of the Cheyenne-Arapaho nation. Her father died when she was 12years old and she was raised by her mother who worked tirelessly to support her 8 children. Her family was very close and protective of each other and was always the most important thing in her life. Edna married Glen Eldon Davis on July 12, 1949 at Canadian, Texas and they had four sons and two daughters. She spent many years raising her children and caring for her family whom she loved with all of her heart. The happiest days were those with her family surrounding her.

Edna worked for the Plainview Co-op Compress and even though she worked long hours, she prepared a feast for the holidays or when any of her children were visiting and always made everyone’s favorite food or dessert. She will be remembered as a devoted mother and granny who loved her family dearly. She stayed up late and was always ready to go “you can sleep when you’re dead”. Rest well Mom, we love you.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years; her parents; and her sisters, Juanita Koen, Ollie Snow, Alice Martin, Florene Grinstead and Millie Sutherland Fisher.

She is survived by her daughters, Brenda Davis and Glenda Ramsower and husband, Reagan both of Woodway; sons, Jack Davis and wife, Sherry of Milton, Florida, Gary Davis of Trophy Club, John Davis and wife, Jody of Copper Canyon, Tommy Lee Davis and wife, Astrid of Clarksville, TN; sister, Carolyn Hurt of Midwest City, OK; brother, Bob Koen of Eagle City, OK; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Children’s Reflection Upon Death of Mom

Our Mom, Edna Louetta Koen was born on October 26, 1930, in Oakwood, Oklahoma, her father, Robert (aka, Bob), was 38, and her mother, Mattie Ann Wanzer, was 35. They were a typical Oklahoma farming family. She was the sixth of eight children and two are still living. She graduated from high school at Longdale, Oklahoma, where she was a starter on her high school basketball team. She married Glen Eldon Davis on July 12, 1949, in Canadian, Texas. They had six children during their marriage (Jack, Gary, John, Glenda, Tom, and Brenda). Dad preceded her in death on July 21, 2013, in Woodway, Texas, at the age of 84. She died on March 11, 2020, in Woodway, Texas, at the age of 89.

Her body had been failing her for several months, but her mind was very sound until recently. She had a very good memory and could quickly tell anyone at any time any extended family birth date; she could provide detailed accounts for events that occurred as far back as her childhood—a wonderful gift! She was mostly a stay-at-home Mother until middle age and reared six of us with love and care and with substantial honor to our individuality--on very little money and at great personal sacrifice. She was always there for each of us. We all learned a good measure of proper obedience and self-respect and gained self-confidence without any unkindness from her. Our Father was a traditional blue-collar, hardworking provider and Mom was always an encourager who showed us unremitting love and care.

The boys are grateful that both sisters lived nearby and always looked after her as she aged. Mom never became bitter and was very philosophical about life. We love her and shall miss our conversations and the enjoyable humor that we shared when with her.

The two pictures shown on this webpage span much of her life, from age 18 to about 86...

I feel so privileged to have known Edna for the past 5 years. She was a wonderful sweet lady. She was always quick to come to my defense when Gary was in his teasing mood (which was quite often). I will miss her as well as her sense of humor and kindness.
